Well, it's that time again... time to give away more fleece that is! Thank you so much for all the blog comments, Facebook posts, emails and phone calls with ideas for the giveaway, they were ALL taken into consideration.

There's an overwhelming amount of support for a contest specifically related to those who use fleece for donating and other service projects. We've decided that our next giveaway will be exclusively for this, however so that we can include EVERYONE this time around, we're doing something different.

How To Enter

Here's the deal: If you haven't already "liked" us on Facebook, please do. Then post a picture of anything you've made with fleece (purchased from anywhere) on our Facebook page. Don't just post anything however as this is a contest, and you'll be "battling" against other crafters for the most likes. ANYONE can win, simply posting gets you 1 entry into the random drawing at the end of the contest. For every "like" your entry gets on Facebook, you score another entry into the drawing, and thus your odds go up of winning the big prize! Everyone and anyone can "like" as many entries as they choose, no limits there. Once again if you don't have Facebook but would like to enter, please email us at contact@yourfleece.com with your images and we'll throw 'em up on Facebook for all to see.

Anything goes, blankets, toys, dog coats, Halloween costumes, whatever you got! The winner will be chosen and announced next Friday. Again, that's for any $100 worth of fabric at retail prices, delivered to your door free of charge!!!

There you'll find plenty of ideas for sewing and craft making, with fleece and other fabrics as well. This giveaway gets the winner $100 worth of fabric, delivered straight to his or her door, completely free of charge. If you've been a YourFleece fan for a while, you know that this is nothing new. The past giveaways have had under 100 contestants, so your odds are really great!

We Make Fleece Blankets!

Did you know that YourFleece can make ready made blankets with almost any of our prints or solids? We try to provide as much as possible to our customers, and we're now offering the ability to purchase ready made blankets rather than the raw fabric. This is sort of an insider service, and will just be for those in the know ;)

We realize that using the fabric to make your own creation is half the fun, and so this is for those who occassionally need a pre-made blanket, need to have a lot of blankets made and don't quite have the workforce, or whatever the reason may be. They will be simple rolled over and finished edges, and we can make custom sizes and single layers, print/solid combinations, or whatever you need! The pricing will vary, and we will not have them as products on the site, so please just email us whenever you're interested and we can let you know the details! Also, let us know your thoughts on this below, it's a bit of a test and we like to collaborate with our customers as you're probably aware by now =)

Breast Cancer Prints Coming Soon...

We get a lot of requests for prints here at YourFleece, and one of the most common is for breast cancer ribbon prints. Up until now, we've had to sadly disappoint our customers, and have been unable to contribute to breast cancer awareness in this respect. Well, we just sourced two amazing prints, and both will be here in April or May of 2012! Though we don't have images yet, one will be pink with pink ribbons, and the other will be black with pink ribbons, both of the highest quality anti-pill fleece. On November 17th, 2011, over 23,000 teens from all over America came together in Indianapolis for 3 days of the annual National Catholic Youth Conference. YourFleece is especially excited about the service project that was done in coordination with Project Linus to make blankets for children in need. We wanted to share some great photos of the event with you, compliments of Mary who coordinated our involvement in the effort. We are at once humbled and inspired by the work of these amazing young people, and hope that you will find these images as exciting as we do!

Youth from 34 States and the District of Columbia helped – they fashioned “flair” from the corners they cut off and wore them as their credentials to show they were “Blanketeers”.

Tips for Sewing with Fleece Fabric

We came across this site the other day, and thought it might be helpful for those of us that work with fleece. It's got some great pointers for sewing (or not sewing) with the fabric, as well as some cool yet simple projects. Some of it may be pretty basic for you, but even some of us that consider ourselves seasoned sewing veterans learned a thing or two :) Here's a sample below:

Fleece First: Important things you should know before starting your first project.

• Fleece has a nap, so make sure you have enough fabric to lay all your pattern pieces in one direction. Otherwise you may see a difference in shading.
• Fleece also has a right and wrong side. This is important because the right side is often clearer, but also, if a finish is applied to the fabric it is applied only to the right side. The sales people at the store should be able to tell you which is the right side, but if not, wash the fabric a few times and then use the side that looks the best as the right side. You can mark the wrong side with a large chalk X before you start your project...

Project Linus Makes A Difference With Fleece Blankets

If you're someone who participates in these efforts already, it can be very encouraging to see how many others are with you. Debora Exum first fell in love with fabrics when she was a girl. Her business, Dragonfly Quilt Shop, is a feast for the senses. Stop in for a visit and let your creative mind be inspired!

Patch: When did you start your business?

Debora: We opened our doors in January, 2007.

Patch: Why this particular business?

Debora: I've had a love for fabric and fiber arts my entire life. When I was a young girl, my mom and I were shopping in Stone Mountain, Georgia. There was a quilt shop there and I asked my mom if we could go in, even though neither of us quilted. After browsing a bit I said to my mom, "I could stay in here and be happy for the rest of my life." It became a dream to have a shop just like it.

Fresh Fleece Fabric Poncho

Fleece Fabric Poncho

The poncho is made from two rectangles. To size the poncho, measure the recipient's arm from the neck, over the shoulder, down to the hand (however far down you would like it to fall, including the fringe). This will be the dimension of the rectangle which lies along the length of the fleece. For the crosswise dimension, add about 8". Make sure the long edge goes on the crosswise grain - it will provide the stretch needed to get the poncho over the wearer's head. Cut two rectangles.

The pink poncho is made from rectangles 17" x 25", including a 2" fringe. (Her height is 108 cm/42.5 inches.) The tiger-striped poncho is 21" x 29", including a 2½" fringe. (Her height is 121 cm/48 inches.) The purple one I'm using to illustrate the pattern is 16" x 24" - it's being made for a 4-year-old girl.

Sew the short side of one rectangle to the long side of the other rectangle, right sides together, with a 1/2" seam allowance. Be sure to start the depth of the fringe up from the bottom, and stop 1/2" from the neck edge.

Take the short side of the rectangle whose long side you just seamed (the side marked A above), and place it right sides together with the long side of the rectangle whose short side you just seamed (marked B above), and sew a 1/2" seam.

Once they are seamed together, turn the seam allowances toward the long edge. Continue turning under along the neck edge, and shape the neck slightly by folding it under in a bit of a curve, like this.

Topstitch through the seam allowances from the right side and along the neck edge until you meet the adjoining seam- I used a decorative stitch for this step.

Mark your fringe along the bottom edges, 1/2" wide and whatever depth you like. (I used 2" on the pink poncho and 2 1/2" on the orange one.) I found it easier to just cut them with scissors (rather than using my rotary cutter), using the lines on my cutting mat as a guide to keep the scissors straight.

Once the fringe is cut, you're done!

What are Shaka Saks?

These doggie beds are similar to a super plush sleeping bag. The outside is a soft and warm printed fleece. The inside and top edge is a super soft, fluffy sherpa fleece which makes it extra thick and plush. It doesn't get any more comfortable than this!

Devastating Story: Marsha Weaver

"I am sure you heard about the terrible tornado damage in the south. There is a selfless woman who was greatly involved in animal rescue who's entire home, vehicles, and all of her small pets were hit. Her entire house was leveled, yesterday only 1 of her 10 guinea pigs, and none of her 16 rats (all rescues) were found. As of this morning it sounds like more were found amongst the wreckage, but not many were living as you can imagine. Marsha has 2 children, one daughter was in ICU because she broke her shoulder and punctured her lung, Marsha bruised her breastbone from clinging so tightly to her children, the family dog lost its eye. It's just awful, they have lost absolutely everything. She has an online business making fleece creations for guinea pigs and rats: http://www.cozycavy.com/. She had just added on an entire sewing room to her home and had a huge selection of fleece and fabrics that was all completely lost. The sewing was her life, her business, and her livelihood. You can imagine what it will be to replace everything. In a time like this, everyone needs to rally together and do what they can to help with this awful tragedy. Blankets for Those In Need

At YourFleece.com, perhaps our favorite thing is when groups come to us to get fleece for charity projects. A couple of months ago, Adam emailed us with an inquiry about making blankets for those in need with his Living Word Youth Group in Missouri. We were thrilled about the project, and even happier when we saw the results in this video below. We wanted to say thank you to Adam and all the young people that helped make this happen for those less fortunate in St. Louis, truly inspirtational work...

"On January 16th, 70 students from St. Louis came to make blankets for the St. Louis Winter Outreach Group. These fleece blankets will be given to folks in warming shelters and on the streets of St. Louis when it is 20 degrees or colder."
